SGMP Race Taken Off of GAS Schedule Due to No Sponsor

Braselton, GA (October 7th, 2009) –Terry Roberts, of the GAS Tour, called Speed51.com today to notify us that the race on October 24th at South Georgia Motorsports Park has been pulled from its schedule.  Roberts said the series and the track are in good standing.  A sponsor had pulled from the event due to the economic times, thus canceling the show.  GAS will now wrap up its season on Halloween night, October 31st, at the Nashville Fairgrounds.

Roderick Shows Dominance in Claiming Super Six Championship

Now...Win the GAS Championship and Win the $25,000 Bonus

Braselton, GA (September 5, 2009) - For many racers, having a dominate season is just a wish, while others have a hopeful dream.  For seventeen year old Casey Roderick, teaming up with Bill Elliott Racing in the 2009 season, this has been his kind of season, as he collected his second win in the 2009 Georgia Asphalt Series, as well as earned the championship for the Super 6 series, at Lanier National Speedway.

When the green flag flew for the 16 car field, Russell Fleeman and Roderick started on the front row, with pole sitter Shane Sawyer (13.879 sec) in third position, after a roll of the die.  Roderick got the early advantage at the drop of the green, and lead the field into turn one, as Fleeman settled for an early second place position. Lap 38 saw 2009 Lanier Pro Late Model champion, Shane Sawyer battle, and claim the second position over Fleeman, eyeing the top spot over Roderick.  Sawyer would settle for third spot at the checkered flag as Roderick’s teammate, Chase Elliott in the Aaron’s Dream Machine Ford would make it a Bill Elliott Racing top two finish, by passing Sawyer on lap 83.  Fleeman would settle for a fourth position, as TJ Reaid rounded out the top five.  Roderick dominated the event, as he led all 100 laps in the caution free event that lasted for 29 minutes.

“Man I didn’t know what to think about our Hometown Community Bank, Bill Elliott Racing Ford,” said Roderick in victory lane.  “I’m so glad that we could hold off Chase.  He was coming at the end, and I knew at that time I needed to give it all that I had.  The lapped cars made it a little difficult to deal with, but we managed to get through them, and keep focused on getting the win.”

Besides claiming the win, Roderick claimed the Super 6 championship, consisting of a race with a race, with the Georgia Asphalt Series running six of their eleven stop tour at Lanier National Speedway.  If Roderick can claim the top position in the Georgia Asphalt Series points standings at the season ending race at Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville on October 31st, he and his Bill Elliott Racing, Hometown Community Bank team will pocket and additional $25,000.

Bill Elliott Racing driver Trey Poole made his fourth start of the 2009 GAS series, starting in seventh position and finishing sixth.  For Poole, it was a learning kind of evening, as he explained in the post race interview.  “Our car was good, but in the beginning I stayed in the groove, and started to fight a loose race car.  We decided to try to let the car drift up and try the high line, and the car then proved to be a rocket-ship.  I wish that I would have found that line a little earlier, then we would have got a better finish than we did tonight,” said Poole.

The next stop for the Georgia Asphalt Series will be at South Georgia Motorsports Park on October 24th, followed by the 2009 GAS season finale at Fairground Speedway at Nashville on October 31st.

Many of the GAS competitors will be back at Georgia’s NASCAR home track this Saturday night for the running of the James Garrison Memorial 100, a non points event, but certain to provide plenty of tight racing action in all divisions on the 3/8th’s mile asphalt oval.
